Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I claim a health fund rebate?

We are covered by the following Health Funds: Medibank Private, AHM, Bupa, St Luke’s [ARHG], NIB, CBHS and the Doctor’s Health Fund. Depending on your cover you may be eligible for a partial rebate for any remedial massages you receive. Contact your health fund to determine what % you can claim.

At the time of your payment you will be given a receipt via email or SMS that contains all of the relevant health fund details for you to process the claim yourself. You simply provide your health fund with a copy of the receipt along with the appropriate provider numbers that are listed on the receipt.

  • What should I expect during my first massage session?

If you are a new client you will be required to fill out a client history and consent form. Ideally arrive ten minutes earlier than your scheduled appointment to allow time to complete this important information. The therapist will then ask you some general questions in regards to muscular areas that you would like worked on. Your massage therapist may perform specific assessments and testing to evaluate your condition before beginning the massage treatment.

At the conclusion of the appointment you will be provided with advice regarding post-massage care and if necessary a treatment plan going forwards.

  • What does a 60 minute session entail?

Our 60-minute sessions start off with a patient assessment which can take 5 or more minutes for a remedial/sports consultation. You will then have a short time to privately adjust your clothing in preparation for the massage.

The actual massage time is approximately 50 minutes with the last few minutes of the session allowing you to change back and receive a treatment plan.

  • Is it ok to book a chiropractic appointment on the same day as a massage?

This depends on your situation as each clients needs are different. You should though speak to your chiropractor to determine what is right for you.

  • What should I do post massage treatment?

It is highly recommended to drink a reasonable amount of water post treatment to help flush out any toxins that may have been released during the massage.

It is also important after a massage to rest - to give your body/muscles time to recover and repair themselves. It is recommended that you avoid doing any strenuous activity immediately after.

Light stretching will enhance the benefits of the massage through helping muscle fibres realign and assist in muscle recovery.

Avoid drinking alcohol or coffee in the following few hours as massages can increase dehydration as do these substances.

  • When and how do I pay?

Payment is expected at the end of the treatment session. Cashless payments are preferred although we do accept cash. Payment is generally done via tapping a credit card to our EFT reader. A receipt is then sent to you via email or as an SMS. A paper receipt can also be provided.

  • When should I avoid a massage?

In certain situations it is advisable to not have a massage. These include if you have a fever, any cold/flu symptoms, a contagious skin infection as well as certain medical/health conditions or injuries. Not all types of massage are appropriate for all conditions - that is why it is important to accurately complete your client history and consent form and keep your massage therapist up to date on any changes in your condition. In some situations, your massage therapist may request your physician’s or chiropractor’s consent and recommendations before having a massage.

If you are uncertain as to whether you should be avoiding a massage please touch base with us on the contact form below and we can provide you with more information.

  • Can I have a massage if I am pregnant?

Pregnancy massage can be really beneficial to help alleviate back/neck pain, improve circulation, reduce stress and aid in better sleep.

However, if you are considered ‘high risk’ (eg high blood pressure, diabetes, preeclampsia) or you are experiencing symptoms such as vomiting regularly from morning sickness, have abdominal pain or bleeding then you will need to get clearance from your medical practitioner before having a massage treatment. It is also highly recommended that a pregnancy massage is safest after the first trimester due to increased health risks during this period.

If you are pregnant, ideally let us know prior to your treatment day as to your current condition and your number of weeks into pregnancy.

  • What is your COVID-19 safety plan?

Please do not attend if you are experiencing any cold/flu like symptoms and if you are, you will need to cancel and reschedule your existing appointment. Note that you are expected to wear a mask in the waiting room but do not need to wear it during the time of the actual massage. Your massage therapist however will wear a mask throughout the entire treatment session.
